VISA HELPS CONSUMERS SHOW HOW MUCH THEY CARE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON WITH THE VISA “SHARE YOUR HOLIDAYS” PROMOTION
Visa teams with friendship expert Dr. Jan Yager to help time-crunched holiday shoppers show their closest family and friends that they care.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 1, 2002) Do you wish there were more ways to show your friends that you care during the holidays, but feel stretched on time and money? This season, don't miss out on showing pals that you value their friendship. Visa has provided a fun, online tool for determining your closest friend and has also teamed with Dr. Jan Yager, a recognized expert on friendship, to provide tips on simple and creative ways to achieve quality time with friends during the packed holiday season. These tips and more are part of the Visa “Share Your Holidays” promotion, where cardholders can celebrate the holiday spirit with the chance to win $10,000 for themselves and $10,000 for a friend.

Dr. Yager, author of Friendshifts: The Power of Friendship and How it Shapes Our Lives and adjunct sociology professor at the University of Connecticut, challenges people to consider out-of-the-ordinary, but surprisingly effortless ways of showing your loved ones that you care.

“As the pressure mounts to buy and wrap holiday presents for your family, look for ways to combine holiday tasks and time with friends,” says Dr. Yager. “Invite a friend to conquer your holiday shopping together, host a gift wrapping party for your friends or invite a friend to a holiday family event. This will give you quality time with friends while simultaneously crossing off items on your holiday to-do list.”

You may also think that it's tough to decide which friend to share time with this holiday season. Emode.com, the number one online destination for self-discovery, is providing a way to help you decide. Emode.com is hosting an online quiz designed to help people determine their closest friend - and perhaps the person they would share the Visa prize with if lucky enough to win. Consumers can log onto http://web.tickle.com/friendship to take the “Just Between Friends” quiz.

“We feel the same holiday crunch as our cardholders, and are working with Dr. Yager to refocus on the true spirit of the holiday season - celebrating with family and friends,” said Bob Pifke, senior vice president, Marketing Services, Visa U.S.A. “Our promotion honors the bond of friendship by awarding lucky Visa cardholders with the opportunity to win $10,000 for themselves and $10,000 for the friend of their choice.”

Dr. Yager offers a variety of other suggestions, including sending holiday cards with life updates to make friends feel included or even a short, personalized message to let them know you are thinking of them. A full list of friendship tips from Dr. Yager is available with this release.
